Origin

Indie (independent) pop is a genre from alternative rock which began in the United Kingdom in the 1980s. Indie pop is associated with guitar pop,
DIY ethic and pop music. It started in the late 1970s from the British post-punk then caused an outburst of fanzines, labels, clubs and toilet circuits.
Indie pop was impacted by a 1960s girl band music and power pop which combines retro material and jangly guitars, very similar to indie rock.
Some subgenres include chamber pop and twee pop.
